How Can RoHS Affect Businesses Directly or Indirectly?

by | Jan 5, 2022

Having gone into force in the beginning of July 2006 by order of the EU’s RoHS Directive, the Directive 2002/95/EC has not only had far-reaching effects but has also been significant to the point where it has allowed it to expand and be adopted with much success.

The RoHS Directive, what is it?

With this Directive, the EU RoHS Directive aims to ban the utilization of a number of harmful and toxic compounds in electronic devices and equipment; as well as reduce employee interaction to chemicals and as a result prevent them from reaching waste dumps.

Materials banned by RoHS:

  • Cadmium
  • Hexavalent chromium
  • Lead
  • Mercury
  • Polybrominated biphenyls
  • Polybrominated diphenyl ethers

Due to the long-established hazardous traits of cadmium, lead and mercury, entities have eliminated the usage of not only paints and pigments but also the thermometers and batteries manufacturing employees and end users interact with very frequently.

Health issues such as cancer in laboratory animals have been linked to the frequent use of products with toxic chemicals and substances such as the polybrominated biphenyls and the polybrominated diphenyl ethers employed in plastic to create a resistance to fire or hexavalent chromium employed in metal plating.

For these and many other ethical reasons, the presence of the EU’s Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive and rules must be presently active.

As one of the top wire harness and cable assembly manufacturing firms in the United States, Z-Tronix Inc.’s products and services are commonly found throughout the United States and abroad, in finished goods that are regulated by the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive.

It is gratifying and fulfilling to Z-Tronix Inc. to claim that all our products and services are completely compliant with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS).
